sunday morning science

i confess.

i have a strong affinity towards bugs.

surprised?
 not me.
sure, they can be nasty.

but then there are are the other times when i get all excited because i have found one.

a dang cool bug.

{isn't he "cute!"}

i get excited because i know how much my kids love them....

and i get excited for what they can learn from observing one of God's amazing creatures for a brief amount of time.

he was one huge grasshopper that looked as if he was a warrior plated with desert armor equipped with the coolest velcro feet ever!

what a fortunate thing to be able to watch my children wonder and learn and then set the marvelous creature free to once again ravage my tiny tomato crop.

i know.
not the smartest thing to free the predator of vegetables,
but it's the least we could do for all he did for us. ;)

what an amazing creature.
just one thing still perplexes me. what on earth is that large spine thing protruding from his abdomen??? the cool thing is that he can bend it and bring it all the way to his mouth and he uses it when climing. it's quite a site to see.

That is really cool! They looked liked they were loving that bug. And you took some GREAT photos! My little Aubrey loves bugs too and will carry ants around the house all day. Kids can be funny!

that is one big grasshopper. we had one break into our house the other day. i tried to get my kids to touch it. All they did was scream. no bug fans in our home, but i sure love to watch them too!

You're so cool Julie, and what a great teacher!!! I saw the excitement in the kids eyes. Great photography too. Hard to believe some moms would scream and run or kill that marvelous creature. Remember all the different critters we had in our home thru the years? God is Great!!! Love, MOM

Good to see the science journal in action! Woo! (Go water wheel!) and what in the heck is that butt sword?!! Never saw that before. I love your pictures. You are developing into such a good phototaker!

Very cool. I especially like the bug pictures with church clothes on.

Your son writes well for a soon to be first grader! He must go to a great school. :)

well michelle, I guess then, you would be complimenting my writing. but i don't think it would still earn the compliment. :) justin writes like any beginning 1st grader...looks great when i make him. ;) even though, he DOES have a good school!

That is so nice of you to let the bug go. All of the creatures Eli catches get stuck in a jar for a day and then die. He had his ladybug for a week, a cricket for a day, and some butterflies for a day. I told him that things need to jump and fly to be happy. He let the remaining butterfly go. :)

Ummm seriously cool bug! I luv catching up with you and your kiddos...soon to be 4! Congrats to all of you. And I'm excited to try the laundry detergent. ps. my cousin Emily Duke might be new in your ward. That would be so fun. I'm going to ask about the sprouted with the 5 minute recipe. I'll let you know what I find out. Also, I'd love to hear what you're buying on Azure. xoxo
